I am listening to pirate songs.
(Or will be shortly - I'm currrently ripping "Rubber Folk" - The Beatle's "Rubber Soul" re-interpreted by leading Bristish folk artists).
But shortly I shall be moving on to Rogue's Gallery - Pirate Ballads.
It's a production by Jonny Depp to celebrate the Pirate films - it's traditional pirate and seafaring songs, with a rather ecclectic line-up - ranging from Jarvis Cocker and Sting to British fo;lk stalwarts like Martin Carthy. Eliza Carthy's "Rolling Sea" is gorgeous. But the unexpected one is the absolutely filthy version of The Good Ship Venus by Loudon Wainwright III. So not safe for work.
(Heh - and suddenly my button for updating my LJ reads "Update Captain's Log" - in honour of the day?)

I'm a newbie in this world ....
So, I have a live journal and I love it. I like jotting down random thoughts, thoughts about writing/gaming and various things of interest I've found on the net.
I like the way that the Live Journal puts all your friends together so that you can read and comment on what they're talking about without having to call up separate blog pages.
Would a blog give me anything more (apart from being able to custom the appearance of the pages much more?)
And do I really need both?

I am not keeping this journal often enough.
I am not writing enough - even when I make time. Today I had a day off work, and really I did NOTHING ... aprt from a bit of shopping and a bit of cleaning ...
This is not good.
We have a poet coming to stay on Saturday, so some house cleaning is essential. We cannot depend on his seeing us as charmingly eccentric - a shame, but there it is. Greg, of course, is a poet - and will be reading twice at this weekend's festival. We must get on with getting him PUBLISHED!
He has had the idea, as he has a beautiful voice, of recording some of his poems on CD and selling those. Certainly, I think there'd be some demand. Perhaps this should be a project for the second half of the year ...
And other news ... Yesterday we had a new TV aerial fitted (yeah!). Our old one was tiny - I suspected the previous house owners had it installed sometime in the sixties. It was a simple bar with crossvar bits along its three foot length.
The new one looks huge and sophisticated in comparison ... I said to Greg that it looked like we wanted to talk to Mars.
The reason for the upgrade was so that we could convert to digital TV. We can do this with a simple box - for £100 and no charges we'll get half a dozen new channels and interactivity. Of course, if we went the satellite or cable route, we could get hundreds of channels ... but we're not that fussed. Also we'd have to pay ongoing monthly fees ... and it simply isn't worth it. A dozen channels and a DVD player ... what more do we need?
Well, obviously a fast and powerful PC with a broadband connection.

Just updating my photos, so I could use one of my cat Siobhan. Playing around with the original image to create the icon and ... guess what? I overwrote the original! (groan).
Oh well, you can all see the lovely Siobhan anyway ...

Well, now I have a live journal ...
And here perhaps I can put down jottings about my life ... and about my writing. Thoughts and ideas.
But now it's late at night - so I shall make this brief.
